Robert Kaplan has more than 30 years of institutional and direct private real estate investment experience and has successfully completed transactions encompassing more than 4,500 apartment units. Mr. Kaplan’s experience spans acquisitions, development, finance, asset management and property operations. As Managing Principal at Ansonia, Mr. Kaplan utilizes his broad experience and market knowledge to direct all investment, finance and asset management activities for the company, as well as leading its property acquisition activities.
Prior to founding Ansonia in 2002, Mr. Kaplan was a founder and principal of Everest Partners where he led the firm’s investment and development activities including the acquisition of non-performing first mortgage loans and adaptive reuse of obsolete manufacturing buildings into vibrant residential and mixed-use properties. Previously, he acquired more than 2,200 units of multifamily housing in 18 states as a senior acquisitions officer for Related Capital, an affiliate of Related Companies in New York. Mr. Kaplan earned both an MBA and MA in Public Policy from the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from Tufts University.
Daniel Stevens leads Ansonia’s acquisition and capital markets activities including sourcing, underwriting and financial structuring for all transactions. Since joining Ansonia in 2015, Mr. Stevens has been responsible for investments in more than 1,150 apartments valued at more than $300 million. He also plays an integral role overseeing asset management, investor relations and the implementation of new technologies used throughout Ansonia’s operations.
Mr. Stevens’ prior experience includes asset management, property operations and construction project management across market rate, mixed-income and affordable multi-family properties. He received his BA from the University of Colorado in Boulder and is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and other industry trade groups.
Mike McKenna has more than 20 years’ experience in institutional asset and property management and has held several senior executive roles within the multifamily industry. Mr. McKenna joined Ansonia in 2019 and oversees all property management and administrative functions related to Ansonia’s multifamily portfolio. In that role, he is responsible for all operations, capital improvement plans, and assists in coordinating due diligence and transitions for new assets and dispositions.
Prior to joining Ansonia, Mr. McKenna was most recently a Regional Vice President at Related Management Company, an affiliate of Related Companies, where had responsibility for a portfolio of over 4,000 units in 26 properties. He has earned several professional accreditations including CPM, CAM, CPM and COS and received a BS from the University of Phoenix.
Phillip M. Vdovets focuses on Ansonia’s acquisition and fundraising functions. Mr. Vdovets has four years of experience in transaction advisory prior to joining Ansonia from Deloitte, where he specialized in strategic mergers & acquisitions.
Previously, Mr. Vdovets was a consultant with Huron Consulting Group and an analyst with Physician Growth Partners, a healthcare focused investment bank. Mr. Vdovets is fluent in Russian and proficient in Slavic languages. He received his BS in Finance and Accounting as well as an MBA in Financial Analysis from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Evan Safrin joined Ansonia from LivCor, Blackstone’s multifamily asset management company, where he was a senior financial and strategy analyst. Mr. Safrin oversees the execution of asset-level business plans and is responsible for optimizing the value of all portfolio investments. He also oversees the transitioning of assets upon acquisition and disposition.
Mr. Safrin earned a BS in Real Estate and Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
Scott Wisler joined Ansonia as Controller in 2017 from Equity Property Management, where he was Controller. Mr. Wisler is responsible for all Accounting, Financial and Tax Reporting, as well as cash management, audit and HR functions for Ansonia and its affiliate Ansonia Property Management. Mr. Wisler has more than 20 years’ accounting experience in the real estate industry, working for institutional owners, a publicly traded REIT and entrepreneurial private owners. Previously he held senior accounting positions with Prime Group Realty Trust, CB Richard Ellis and PM Realty Group. Mr. Wisler received a BS in Accounting from Purdue University.
Erik Anderson leads Ansonia’s in-house construction management and is responsible for developing project scope, vendor relations and bid selection, and project supervision.
Prior to joining Ansonia in 2019, Mr. Anderson held construction and project management positions for the Chicago Cubs and Draper & Kramer. Over the course of his 10+ year career, Mr. Anderson has managed or supervised renovation projects valued at more than $50 million in more than 20 multifamily properties ranging from clubhouse renovations to roof replacements to unit renovation programs. Erik earned a BS in Construction from Bradley University.
